From the Legion Commander:
Welcome to Spring! Can you believe that we are in the month of April already? If your American
Legion Membership Card does not have 2017 on it, you are over 4 months delinquent in paying your
dues. Please remit your $45.00 payment ASAP.
Then join us on Saturday, April 1st, from 8am-10:30am, for our All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast Buffet. No
fooling. The Auxiliary Euchre Tournament and soup cook off will follow at noon.
The American Legion Riders are having their "Rock and Ride" Party and Dance on Saturday, April 8th
starting at 7pm. See Director Dan's article for more info. Our Post is open to the public that day/evening.
Our Fish Fry's are doing great and THANKS to all the volunteers who help make it that way. In April,
we have two more Fish Fry Fridays, on the 7th and the 14th, from 5pm - 7pm. I'm sure that we will have
a good turnout for those, too. We still can use some help with the cleanup afterwards. The SONS will
have their Grill and Meat Raffle on the 14th at the last Fish Fry. Get your tickets now.
The next Legion E-Board meeting will be on Monday, April 3rd, at 7pm. And the next Legion meeting is
on Wednesday, April 5th, with meal followed by the meeting at 7:30pm.
Have a wonderful month. Nice weather is coming soon, hopefully.
Wally Brodock Jr.
From the Auxiliary President
Spring has sprung and soon April showers and warmer temps will be here.
Our month begins with the Euchre Tournament on the 1st (April Fools Day). Sign up begins at noon,

will elect our President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, Historian, and three Auxiliary
Executive Committee Members at Large. The Installation of newly elected Unit officers and 3 Exec.

The American Legion Auxiliary Memorial Poppies Posters are in full bloom, all over the south wall, in
the Post home Hall. Stop in and check it out! We advanced 4 of the Posters from Caledonia Middle and
High School students, to the 5th District Auxiliary for competition. Good luck to all four of those
And speaking of Poppies, Chairman Lori Trutsch is asking all of our members who still have any of our
Poppy Canisters out, to please bring them back to the Post, so we can prepare for the upcoming Poppy
Thank you to Chairman Judy Brodock and all the members who participated in the "Yankee Candle
Fundraising" Spring event. Now it's time to think about placing your "Flower Power" order with
Chairman Anita Exline. Catalog available in the lounge, soon.
We are now using a phone calling committee for funeral luncheons, our patriotic holiday meals, and
special Vets Home lunches at our Post. Brigitte Neil is still our Funeral luncheon Chairman. She is now
aided by the Calling Committee of Kim Gehl Thorington, Maria Kemp, and Club Manager Cami.
Please be receptive when you are called upon, by one of these ladies, to donate a food item. Thanks to
your generosity, we are able to provide a comforting meal for our Veteran families on these occasions.
It has been an honor to serve along side you this past year, as your Auxiliary President. I look forward
to many more opportunities to work together for the betterment of our Legion Family, the Veterans,
and our Community. Thank you.
God bless you, and God bless our Veterans!
From the SAL Commander
Hello Legion Family,
It’s officially Spring! Soon we will all be outside enjoying the great thaw in Michigan. There is no better
time to win a grill. Our Grill raffles are still going on.. We are raffling off a Full size backyard gas grill
with 10lbs of Shagbark tenderloin and are also raffling off a tailgating style grill with 5lbs of Shagbark
burger. These are two separate raffle items, which means you could win them both. Tickets are 6 for $5
and 1 for $1 and are being sold in the bar. Remember these raffles allow us to continue to help our
veterans and our community so buy a ticket or several. Who knows you may be the next winner. The
winner for these raffles will be drawn at the last Fish Fry of Lent. You need not be present to win as long
as you have filled out your name and phone number on your ticket.
Bingo is back in full force, come on out and join the fun. The Early Bird game begins at 6:30 pm with
the Regular start time being 7:00pm If you are not a player you can still join the fun, we are ALWAYS
in need of volunteers for Bingo.
Mark your calendars; May 13, 2017 is the SONS annual road cleanup. More details to come in the next
newsletter. Just a reminder that your membership card expired December 31st 2016 and membership
prices increased $5 after January 1, 2017. If you have an expired card you are no longer entitled to the
benefits of membership. Please see JR to renew.
Our next meeting is April 10th with social hour starting at 6:30 pm and our meeting beginning at 7pm. I
am looking forward to seeing you all. Dinner is provided to those who come to the meeting and stay for
the duration. It’s time to start thinking about officer nominations. Nominations are held at our April
meeting and the vote for officer positions takes place at our May meeting. This is your opportunity to
choose the direction of our organization so come on out and make your voice heard.
