From the Legion Commander:
The Halloween Trunk or Treat was another big success. Great job Melissa Vredevoogd and your volunteers. 127
families attended and almost 200 donuts were consumed.
On November 11th, at 5pm, our Post held a very moving Veterans Day Ceremony. I would like to thank Senior Vice
Commander Scott Baldwin for the fine job he did of leading the program, and his thoughts on what it means to be a
Veteran. Thanks to Officers Larry Waldron, Jim McConnon, and Board Member Melissa Vredevoogd for their words
of wisdom. Thank you, also, to Auxiliary President Terri and the Sons of the American Legion Representative John
Crissman for their participation. And thanks Sons for a wonderful job on the Firing Squad and Buff Rodgers was right
on with playing of Taps. Chaplain Gary Timmermans was inspirational with the prayers.
Part of the evening included our immediate Past Veteran of the Year Gary Marzean announcing the recipient of the
2017 Post 305 Veteran of the Year, Bill VanPortFleet. Congratulations Bill! The Auxiliary provided tasty appetizers, a
delightful ham dinner, and delicious desserts. Can't top that. Thank you, ladies!
Our Texas Hold'Em November 16-19 was well run and again profitable. Thanks to all who volunteered their time. The
success is all due to you!
Our first Saturday of the month Breakfast Buffet continues to be a crowd pleaser. Plan to attend on December 2nd. We

From the Auxiliary President
Season's Greetings Auxiliary Sisters,
As you read this, Thanksgiving will have passed. But I'd like to share some things I am thankful for. I thank God, who
has blessed me with so much. For my family, I dearly love them. I thank our Veterans, and Service Members still
fighting, who have risked life and limb, so we can live with freedoms people from other countries only dream of. The
Legion Family for their service not self, can do attitude, who volunteer to make a difference for our Post, the
community and Veterans. For things that bring happiness and joy, a flavorful bite of food, sip of a tasty beverage, the
sound of favorite music or laughter, the touch of a hand, a shared smile. What are you thankful for?
The Veterans Day Dinner was a wonderful way to show our appreciation to the Post 305 Veterans. Thank you Auxiliary
members for all the volunteer hours, food donations, fundraiser participation, talents and ideas shared, meeting
attendance, through the year. You keep this Unit going strong.
Saturday, December 2nd is our next Euchre Tourney. Participation has been sparse, so your odds of being a top 3 team
are better. Entry fee is $10.00 per person, two person teams. Sign up at noon and play begins at 12:30. Snacks to share
may be brought in that day. Join us for the fun!
Saturday, December 9th the Auxiliary will host the Legion Family Childrens Christmas Party from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Santa will appear at noon. Please bring a wrapped gift with childs name clearly printed on the package. There will be
craft making, cookie decorating, and lunch. Bring the kids and grand kids for our annual day of Christmas fun. (I
fondly remember this event from when I was a child.)
2018 upcoming dates are the Auxiliary Christmas Dinner, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at a restaurant, yet to be
determined. And the Wine Tasting Event, Friday, February 9th, in Post 305 Hall, open to the public. Check future
monthly newsletters for info about these events and more to come.
Our next Unit Meeting will be Wednesday, December 13, at 7:00pm, social at 6:30pm.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
From the SAL Commander
Greetings Fellow SAL Members and Friends,
Amazing how fast this year has flown by as we leave November in the rear view mirror and prepare for the wonderful
Holiday Season! The first year I became a member of Post 305 my first volunteer opportunity was to help with the Sons
of the Legion Holiday Gift Basket distribution. I didn’t know what to expect, however I learned I was welcomed with
open arms to help assemble boxes, pack items and help others load vehicles for our chance to deliver to those needing
a helping hand that holiday season. Since that time my entire family has become involved in this project and is
thankful for the opportunity to serve. This year the Holiday Basket delivery is scheduled for December 16th. Those
wishing to help in any way please let Tom Hyde know and he will put you to work. The amount of volunteers last year
was great to see and Tom would like to express his thanks for all involved.
A few upcoming fundraisers are in the works for this coming winter and spring so stay tuned for the announcements
for those. Or better yet, ask how you can lend a hand. Check us out on Facebook at Caledonia Post 305 Sons of the
American Legion. We try and post information there of upcoming events and volunteer request.
Thanks to all who participated and attended the Veterans Day Ceremony. It is a great way to celebrate those who
served our nation.
