American Legion Post 305 - February 2018

                                             From the Legion Commander

Hello Members,

On Saturday, Jan. 13, our Post, Auxiliary, and Sons hosted 2 bus loads of 18 men and 5 ladies from the Grand
Rapids Vets Home to Bingo and a fish fry lunch. Thank you Paul, from Three Brothers Pizza in Middleville for
the tasty pizzas and dessert. Thank you Troop 202 Boy Scouts for serving the Vets and helping them with the
bingo cards. Thank you Military Moms and Auxiliary ladies for the delicious pies. The Vets really enjoyed
them. An extra special Thank You to Chemical Bank for the very generous donation of bingo prize money for
the Veterans. It was much appreciated! The helpful cooperation of all volunteers involved made for a successful
day of fun, games and food for nearly 2 dozen VIP's from the Home.

February is gonna be a very busy month at the Post. The All-you-can-eat Breakfast Buffet is Saturday, Feb. 3rd,
8:30-10:30am. Then at noon is the sign-up for the Aux. Euchre Tournament.

The Executive Board meets Monday, Feb. 5th at 7pm, and the Legion General Meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 7th,
6:30 pm social, and meeting at 7:30pm.

Friday, Feb. 9th starting at 6 pm is the Auxiliary Wine and Beer Tasting Night.  Good snacks, wine and beer.
Let's show our support and attend their fundraiser!

Remember Valentines Day, Wednesday February 14.

Every Friday from Feb. 16th thru March 30th will be our famous Legion Post 305 Fish Fry's. Help is always
needed from set up to clean up and everything in between. Volunteer one Friday or all 7 of them.

I hope all of you are staying warm in this cold weather. And stay safe if you enjoy winter sports.

                                                                  From the Auxiliary President

Greetings Auxiliary Members,

Thank you to the ladies who provided pies for the 23 Vets from the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans who came
for Post 305's Fish Fry/Bingo on Jan. 13th. Simply delicious!

February is here, winter is half way through. Start the month off with the Buffet Breakfast Saturday morning
Feb. 3rd. Then grab a partner for Euchre at noon.

Friday evening, Feb. 9th is our Annual Wine and Beer Tasting Event. Bring your friends for a night of fun and
flavors. You just might find a new favorite beverage!

The next Auxiliary Unit meeting is on Valentine's Day,  Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14th at 7pm. Wear red to be
entered for a special prize drawing.

For seven Fridays, beginning Feb. 16th, are the famous Legion Fish Fry's at Post 305. Door opens at 5pm.

Stay warm, think spring,
Terri Brodock

                                                                   From the SAL Commander

Happy Winter Fellow SAL Members,

Rain or snow? Warm or cold? Overcast or sunny? Spending my entire life in Michigan, I have to say I
absolutely love waking up and seeing what Mother Nature has planned for the hearty Michigan faithful.
Although some consider the winter months as long and boring, the month of January was very active and

productive at Post 305. At the monthly Sons meeting it was decided that April 6th will be the first Spuds Steak
Fry of 2018. Mark that date on the family calendar and tell your friends. We hope to have an open license to
help us usher in the spring months. Spud, Jim Bob and Dan Nelson will man the grilles once again however
dishwashers and server volunteers are needed as well as a cleanup crew would be much appreciated.
Please be sure to keep February 24th open as the Sons and the Legion are cosponsoring a Chili Cook-off.
Swing into the Post and sign up to show that your hours of watching the Food Network have not been wasted.
The Post has applied for an Open License so please help get the word out and fill up the hall and lounge for a
day/night of fun.

January 9th the Post hosted the SAL District 5 meeting held in the hall. Our chef, Eugene provided our visitors
a spaghetti and meatball dinner with a salad and the officers raved about the great tasting winter treat. It was a
great experience to meet our District 5 officers and share info on things that we can improve on and local
happenings at surrounding posts.
On January 13th the Post hosted West Michigan Veterans for a fish fry and day of Bingo. I was able to be the
self-appointed pie tester, and Spud and Kirk represented the Sons by being the head chefs in charge of frying
the fish. What a wonderful day it was to see each division of the Post come together to help put on a great event
for those who served and enjoyed the road trip to Post 305.

Stop into the Post as the Sons have a grill on order and plan on selling raffle tickets as soon as Mr. Bill has the
grill assembled. We will be drawing the winning ticket on Good Friday after the Fish Fry.

Stop in for the next SAL meeting on February 12th. Social Time begins at 6:30 and meeting starts at 7:00 sharp.
I will have you in and out in under an hour.  Next meeting agenda includes budget approval and ideas for a
Caledonia Western Week fundraising tent. Please attend and see what Chef Eugene has prepared for us.

See you at the Legion,
                                                                                                Tony Huver
