From the Legion Commander

Hi Members,

Well it's November, the weather is changing, and we set our clocks back.

Our E-Board met on Monday, Oct. 30th at 7pm. The Post General Meeting will be on Wednesday, Nov. 1st,
with 6:30pm social hour and the meeting at 7:30 pm.

Our monthly Breakfast Buffet will be on Saturday, the 4th, from 8am to 10:30am. Then the Euchre
tournament is at noon.

The following Saturday is Veterans Day and our ceremony will be held in the Hall at 5pm this year. Please
join us to honor those men and women who fought and continue to fight for the freedoms we enjoy
everyday. Refreshments provided by the Auxiliary.

We will be having Texas Hold 'Em, at Russo's Kings Room on Division Ave., Thursday Nov. 16 thru Sunday
Nov. 19. This is the big money maker for our Post and your help is greatly needed! We have two shifts each
day, and three people are needed for each shift. It is easy to do. If you have never done it, we will put you
with others that have worked it before. There is a sign up sheet in our Post by the Lounge door. 24 slots
need to be filled to have this event. Please sign up for at least one shift.

Have a great month and a Happy Veterans Day,
                                                                                                      Wally Brodock Jr.

                                                          From the Auxiliary President

Hello Auxiliary Sisters.

The last of the leaves are falling off the trees, another Halloween has come and gone, and we are in

Our monthly Euchre will be on Saturday the 4th, sign up at noon and play begins at 12:30pm. Snacks to
share may be brought in.

We, members, will be providing the appetizers and desserts for our Legion on Saturday, November 11, for
the Veterans Day Ceremony at 5pm in the Hall. So please donate something delicious, drop off that day
from noon-4:30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Yankee Candle Fundraising sales will end on November 15th. Catalogues and order forms are available
in the Lounge. Remember, there are many things to purchase other than candles. We receive 40% of our
sales, that's 40 cents of every dollar, is our profit. Please place an order soon.

The 8th hour program at Duncan Lake Middle School is going well. Penny Kirk is educating a small group
of students about Veterans, the American Legion Family, and projects for the Troops. Volunteer Veteran
guest speakers, from our Post, are informing the kids about their military service. The kids really enjoy
interacting with those Vets! The kids are also making blankets and putting together welcome home boxes for
returning Military Personnel. They are going to hold a lunch hour bake sale to raise the funds needed for
these projects. The Auxiliary voted to make a matching donation to them.

We are also in the planning stage for our annual Legion Kids Christmas Party on December 9th. If you are
interested in being on this committee, please attend the November Unit meeting.

The next Unit Meeting will be Wednesday, November 8, social at 6:30 and the meeting at 7pm.

Thank a Vet. And have a Happy Thanksgiving.

                                                               From the SAL Commander

Happy November Friends and Members,

First off I would like to thank those who attended the October Meeting and the many fundraising ideas that
where brought up. The more ideas and volunteers we have, the stronger our squadron is and the more we
can help Post 305, our Veterans and our community. A big thank you to Cami for the Sloppy Joes that
where provided for the SAL meeting, we all did our part to make sure there was not much left for leftovers.

By the time this newsletter hits the press we will have completed the 2nd Spud Steak Fry. As always I would
like to thank the many volunteers and attendees who have helped make this a success and a grand time for
all involved. Thus far we have made money and hope to continue to host a steak fry whenever there is an
open date. If you feel you would like to help, please ask what you can do or let someone know and we will
find a “little project for you to do.”

Huge thanks to the Kitchen and Cami’s team of fine bartenders and servers. There have been many days
that our lounge has been a packed house of people waiting to try the new menu and the girls are patient
answering questions on the new items. If you have not stopped in to sample the Post 305 new outstanding
dinner menu please make a point of it. The value and quality is second to none.

Our next Sons of the American Legion meeting will be November 13th.  Social time starts at 6:30 pm and
the meeting starts at 7:00pm sharp. If you have never attended a meeting I encourage you to stop in and see
what it is about. I will have you out in about an hour, plus the Sons will provide dinner. We will hopefully
be finalizing a few ideas on fundraisers and always look for fresh ideas. We are only as strong as our
members and volunteers are. Let Mr. Bill, Spud and the gang show you how it’s done.
I wish the best of luck to the Post 305 hunters. Please be safe and remember, if you are in a tree stand use a
safety harness. Be sure to bring in the summer sausage and jerky samples for all to sample and critique.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and be sure to pause to give thanks to live in the greatest country on earth. If I
have not met you in the lounge or at a meeting, please introduce yourself to me. No guarantee I will
remember your name but I will remember your face.
See you at the next meeting,

Tony Huver

Our Post has a long standing tradition of providing military style funeral arrangements for our Post Legion
members as well as parades, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Homecoming and Christmas. With the march of
time, many of the troops are experiencing physical situations limiting their ability to perform these duties.
For those members from the Lebanon/Grenade, Panama and Gulf war era, please consider being a part of
this tradition. You served your country honorably, why not your community? You will be proud you did.
