|American Legion Post 305 - March - 2019
| From the Legion Commander
Hello Legion Family,
March is always a busy month for our Legion. Starting off with the Annual Polish Meal, 3/5/19 which is always a
great success. Thanks to Tom and Donna and the rest of our volunteers for making this event run with always a great
tasting meal. We start our fist Fish Fry of the Lent season on 3-8 and hold them every Friday the rest of the month.
Thanks for all the continued support to make our Fish Fry’s an event that people look forward to every year.
Last Month the Legion had it’s down points because of the terrible weather. We had to close our doors a few times
for safety reasons, but that did not stop us from still getting together when the weather subsided to continue our
Veteran fellowship at the Legion. On a positive note though during our annual Chili Cookoff we raised over 750
dollars for the Kent County Veterans Treatment Court making the event a tremendous success.
It has been great seeing some new members coming into our ranks and seeing some of them taking part in some of
our events. As we move more into this year I hope to see even more new members.
Upcoming Events for the Legion:
Fish Fry’s Continuing until Easter
Look forward seeing you at the Legion
“Veterans Still Serving”
From the Auxiliary President
We did not have a regular meeting in February due to the weather. Our next regular meeting is scheduled for
Wednesday, 3/13/2019, at 7pm. Please join us for happy hour prior to our meeting at 6pm. We will have “free”
daycare for anyone that has children and would like to come to the meeting.
We had our 10th Annual Wine & Beer Tasting Event on Friday, 2/8/2019. It was a lot of fun but we did not have a
great turnout due to bad weather. However, we still did make money for the Veterans. Yay! We are still waiting for
final numbers. We will keep you posted. Thank you to all the volunteers and all that donated appetizers!
Euchre Tournaments continue every first Saturday of the month. Please sign up by noon and Euchre starts promptly
at 12:30pm. Come join in on the fun!
All Auxiliary membership renewals should be renewed by now but if you haven’t, please contact Jenny Baisch at 616-
308-9848. The bartenders will not serve anyone that has not renewed so please have your cards with you. Our goal
for 2019 is 208 members. Currently, the ALA has 183 members paid. In order for us to make our goal, we need to
have 208 members paid by end of May. Please try to renew by then if you can. And just a reminder that if you have
been a member for over 40 years, the ALA pays for your membership.
I am working on our annual impact service report. I need to have it completed by 3/10/2019. I know a lot of you do
volunteer work inside and outside of the American Legion for the community. We are in need of all your volunteer
hours between March 2018 through current whether it was done for the American Legion, Schools, Churches, or any
other organization. Please email or call me ASAP with the following information: Date(s) when you volunteered,
Organization you volunteered for, What you did, and how many hours you worked volunteering. See my contact
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime with any questions, concerns or ideas. Contact Information is: Penny
Kirk (President): firstname.lastname@example.org / Cell #616-914-2652.
Thank you all for your support to our American Legion Post 305!
God Bless you, our Military and Veterans!
From the SAL Commander
Michigan, 9 months of snow and three months of bad sledding, is an old painful joke that seems to hit close to us at
Post 305. With the horrible roads and closings the Sons would like to thank those who purchased meat bundle tickets.
The good news is SALs favorite winner, Deb Laymeyer has invited everyone over for a bbq! Part of the profit that
was made with ticket sales, will be sent to a local family who support our Post events and whose son has had a health
scare and they can use the money as needed.
Daryl Penfold provided a membership report of 227 members. There are still some unpaid dues so make sure you
make a point of renewing your dues so you can stay current. Also discussed at the latest Sal meeting was the Sons
involvement of purchasing a much needed portable credit card machine. We feel this item is very valuable to our
paying guest and certainly helps move the lines along at the almost famous steak fry’s, fish fry’s and the Post
Thanks to all the members who attended the last meeting and enjoyed the Three Brothers Pizza that was provided.
Next meeting will be March 11th, at 7:00 pm sharp. Social time begins at 6:30 pm. We will attempt to name a date for
the annual road cleanup project. If you are interested in becoming more involved or perhaps running for office, stop
by and check us out.
See you at the Legion,
