American Legion Post 305 - May - 2018
SAL
ALR

                                          From the Legion Commander

Hi Members,

Well it's May and time for Nomination and Election of Post 305 Officers. Our E-Board meeting is Monday,
April 30th at 7pm, and the Post General Meeting is Wednesday, May 2nd, 6:30pm  social hour/dinner and the
Meeting is at 7:30pm. We need your vote so please come to the Meeting.

The Post 305 All-you-can-eat Breakfast Buffet is on Saturday, May 5th from 8am-10:30am. Hopefully the
weather is nice by then for a good turnout.

The SAL is doing a Steak Dinner on Friday, May 11th. See Squadron 305 .Commander Tony's article for
details. Maybe they won't have to grill in the snow, sleet, and cold wind for this one.

We have another Texas Hold 'Em  on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 17-20. There are two shifts
each day that need to be filled by 3 members. If you have never done it before, we will team you up with those
who can guide you. It's easy to learn and fun to do. So please sign up!

On Monday, May 28th we will celebrate Memorial Day. Our Legion Family and volunteers march and  provide
a service at 5 Cemeteries locally. As some of us members are aging, replacements for several duties are needed
each year. If you are interested in helping, attend the May 2nd meeting or contact Bill White for more details.
For cemetery times, and Caledonia Parade info, see the article in this newsletter.

I have been your Post Commander for two consecutive terms, and at the end of May, my time in that office will
come to an end. I was proud to be elected to serve my American Legion Post 305. I was glad to do it. I have
learned a lot. And hope that I have inspired others to step up and get more involved. This is your Post, your
voice in the meetings, and your service to the Legion Family is needed.

On a final note, THANKS to all who have helped me in many ways. Especially the Officers and Board members.
Manager Cami, the kitchen staff, and our bartenders who all take pride in serving our Veteran family and in a
job well done. My great appreciation to the Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion members and
volunteers, our Legion Family for being there whenever needed. To my close friends, at the Post, who were
always there for me. And especially Chet Teater for his wisdom and guidance on an almost weekly basis. And
finally to my family for believing in and supporting me along the way.

Forever grateful,
                                                                        Wally Brodock

                                                                  From the Auxiliary President

Come to the Unit meeting  for more details.

The next Unit meeting will be Wednesday, May 9th, Social at 6:30pm, a short Business Meeting at 7pm SHARP,
followed by Installation of Officers at approx. 7:30pm.

This is my final newsletter article as President. Many years ago, my parents were Charter Members of this Post
and Unit. As a child, Caledonia Memorial 305 is where my Legion Family journey began. Even though I joined
and was a member of Alto Unit 528 for almost 30 years, when I transferred here a few years ago, it was like I
had finally come "home". It has been a great honor and my sincere privilege to serve as your Unit President for
these past 2 years. Thank you Officers, Chairmen and Members. Your friendship and kindness have been
immeasurable.

Respectfully Yours,

                                                                          Terri Brodock

Mother Nature 0, Spuds Steak Fry 1. In a knock down, action packed fight, the Sons pulled out a close win over
the horrible grilling conditions on Friday April 9th. We had a personal best steaks sold and only suffered one
frostbite that was recorded. I would like the thank all of the wonderful volunteers from the Ladies Auxiliary, the
Legion, the Sons, and many friends and family who lent a hand. Also thanks to Rick for running the 50/50
drawing, that appears to add a little fun to the evening. We served 157 steaks and this is not possible without the
quality help and I am truly thankful to all. We have a couple hiccups that we will try to iron out and come out
even better on May 11th, when we plan on getting the gang back together and have another Spuds Steak Fry!!!
May 11th, 4:30 until 7:00. Post 305 is a special, friendly place so make sure you stop by. Our goal is to fill the
tummy and make you feel welcome and hopefully you will leave having made a couple new friends.

Congratulations to the winner of the grill and thanks to all who bought a ticket. We are making plans for
another fun raffle that we hope to draw on Memorial Day.

Reminder to all that May 12th we need volunteers to clean our section of the road on 100th street. Stop by the
post around 8:00 a.m. to get our marching orders and game plan. My promise to you is you can keep or eat
anything you find.

The final meeting until summer break is May 14th. Social hour starts at 6:30ish followed by the meeting at 7:00
pm sharp. Come have a quick bite to eat and see what is happening.

See you at the legion,
                                                                            Tony Huver

We need some new members to join us this year in the five parades we do. Those of you who have served are
welcome to wear your Military Uniforms to take part in these ceremonies. We older members are getting a little
more tired with each passing year and would love to work with younger members to carry on this Post tradition
of 64 plus years. Please consider sharing your coming Memorial Day with fellow Veterans. For details check
with the Post at 616-891-1882. Better yet, come to the Legion meeting Wednesday night May 2nd at 7:30 or 6:30
for dinner and social hour before hand.
