Memorial Day is a day to remember those that are no longer
with us who served our country, our community and the world
in the name of freedom for all. These are just a few of our Post
memorials to keep us reminded all year long.
Memorial Day 2009

The parade begins with Colors,  Firing Squad, our speakers, The Sons,
and the Ladies Auxiliary.
The Boy Scouts, Our Fire & Rescue Dept., The Junior
High Band, The Cub Scouts and The Senior Band.
Glen Klaver gave opening statement and introduced the following, Jerry Gore with opening
Prayer, The demonstration & meaning of each fold of the US flag by Randy Phillips JR, Chet
Teater, Ed Harmon & Bill White, and State Senator Hon. Mark Jansen gave the main address.
The Pipers, Dorothy Wilson & Roger
Billings play Amazing Grace and Rev.
Merle Buwalda gives the closing prayer.
The Auxiliary put on a fabulous meal after the ceremonies for all that took part
in the days events.

Memorial Day morning began at the Post with breakfast
for all those groups that participated in the days
events.Thanks goes out to the folks that came in early in
the morning to get breakfast prepared and get our
portable PA system together.

parade with first being driven by Bob
Roelofs and riding with him Bill
Lysdahl, both members of Post 305.
Thank you to members Phil and Pete Datema for their
construction of the stage they built for the speakers.

Blaine cemetery was the second of the day.
Dutton cemetery was the third stop.

The Ceremony at Holy Corners
One of our honored guests,
Cpl. Josh Hoffman and his
fiancée Heather Lovell.
At Lakeside Cemetery the Auxiliary, Firing Squad
and Colors stand ready for the opening ceremonies.
Sargent at Arms Bill White lays a wreath on the memorial in
remembrance. Buff Rodgers gives a military prayer followed by
Doc John Connelly singing the national anthem accompanied by
the Caledonia School Bands. The Firing Squad were given the
command to "Salute the Dead" and "Taps" were played following
the firing of the rifles. Glen Klaver thanked everyone for their
participation and concluded the program.
As with every Memorial Day the Auxiliary has
their annual "Poppy" poster contest with
Caledonia Schools. Pictured below are the
submissions in this years contest.
